As the demand for training in this area continues to grow, PARASOL are currently developing courses in both Intermediate and Advanced Life Support, using the latest learning theories and teaching methods. Advanced Life Support trainers are experienced in the field of Accident & Emergency (Hospital) or advanced ambulance (Paramedic Level 5 or equivalent). Advanced Life Support (ALS) Course Level 1 (Immediate Life Support) - $425.00This course should meet the needs of those who need more advanced skills than those taught during Basic Life Support (BLS) courses but who do not require the more comprehensive 2-day Advanced Life Support (ALS) Course. This one-day course comprises two key lectures, skill stations and simulations to promote the development of practical resuscitation skills. Assessment of basic life support, basic airway management and defibrillation (manual or AED) is undertaken continuously throughout the day. The aim is to train healthcare personnel to manage patients in cardiac arrest until arrival of a cardiac arrest team and to participate as members of that team. On successful completion, the Australian Resuscitation Council awards the candidate a certificate valid for 4 years. See below for course dates Advanced Life Support (ALS) Course Level 2 - $600.00 for non-doctors & $1,100.00 for doctorsThe ALS course aims to teach the theory and practical skills to effectively manage cardiorespiratory arrest, peri-arrest situations and special circumstances, and to prepare senior members of a multidisciplinary team to treat the patient until transfer to a critical care area is possible. This course focuses on achieving advanced resuscitation competencies and is also designed to develop leadership and team skills in managing such emergencies. It is designed for healthcare professionals who would be expected to apply the skills taught as part of their clinical duties, or to teach them on a regular basis. Appropriate participants include doctors, nurses and paramedics working in critical care areas (e.g. ED, CCU, ICU, HDU, operating theatres, acute admissions units) or those who are members of a Cardiac Arrest / Medical Emergency Team. All applicants should hold a professional healthcare qualification and a current clinical appointment. This two-day course comprises lectures, practical skill stations, workshops and assessments. An MCQ paper is taken on the last day to assess the underlying theoretical component. In addition, practical assessments are undertaken throughout the course. These are based on clinical scenarios, and allow the candidate to effectively demonstrate the core competencies that have been taught on the course. On successful completion, the Australian Resuscitation Council awards the candidate a certificate valid for 4 years. See below for course dates
